In order to make a solid we always need a sketch . Sketcher work bench is used to make this sketch . Sketcher work bench has all the tools tat is required to make the profile .
Opening of sketcher work bench
There are few different methods to open sketcher work bench .
1, Click the start menu in the Catia tool bar . Now the different categories wil be shown. Select mechanical design and then select sketcher in it . Now the part work bench will be opened . Select the plane on which you want to draw the sketch . Automatically the plane will appear perpendicular to your sight . Now this is the sketcher work bench .
2, You can also go to part design through start - mechanical design - part design . Now in part design you have a tool called sketcher. Click it and click the plane .
3, Go to file and click new . Now a window will be opened asking which type of file you want to open . Select part and click ok . Now part design will be opened .Select the sketcher tool and select the plan .
Tools of sketcher work bench
In sketcher work bench there are many tool bars which is used to realize the required profile . In order to select the hidden tools one has to right click on the right side blank space and choose the required tool .

1, Standerd tools : It contains all the file related trools such as open , save , print etc
2, View tool bar : This tool bar has tools to allow the designer view the design with required specification . the tools in view tool bar is

4, Operation tool bar : In the previous tool bar we had tools to create profile , In this tool bar we have tools to edit this profile . Operation like trim , split ect. can be performed by using this tool bar . The tools in operation tool bar are .

3 Trim , split , compliment , complete curve
4, mirror , symmetry , pattern , revolve
5 3D projection elements
5 , Constrain tool bar : Constrains are of 2 types .Dimensional constrain and geometric constrain . A sketch drawn should be constrained completely for a quality model . Constrain tool bar has tools for both .
1, Geometric constrain : In this constrains such as concentric , symmetry , vertical ,. horizontal , perpendicularity ect can be given .
2 , Dimensional constrain : Constrains like length , angle diameter etc .
3 , Animate constrains : By using this option one can animate a constrain and see the changes that take place when the value of that constrain changes .
6, Sketch tool bar : This is one of the most important tool bar . Grid option and snap grid is provided in this tool bar . Just left to grid option is the construction element tool which allows you to provide an element for reference which will not be considered during the solid extrusion process . Sketch tool bar is one of the most important because all the sub option of the selected tool will be shown in the sketch tool bar .
